With one of the densest public transportation systems in the world, getting around Hong Kong could never be easier. Boasting 159 stations, the MTR system is the quickest way to get around, saving valuable time better spent exploring the city. Where inaccessible by train, a large bus/ferry/tram network ensures there is no place in the city you can’t get to.
Alternatively, there are 18,163 registered taxis in the city. All are distinctly painted either red, green or blue, representing their area of operation and corresponding fares. Blue taxis are cheapest but can only travel within Lantau Island and Chek Lap Kok. Green taxis are slightly more expensive but can only travel within the New Territories. While red taxis are the most expensive but can travel anywhere in Hong Kong other than Tung Chung Road and Southern Lantau Island.
With the exception of taxis, most public transport can be paid using an Octopus card. Available for purchase at every MTR station (light rail not included) and most convenience stores, the Octopus card is a smart electronic money payment system that allows payment not only for public transport but also at parking meters, convenience stores, supermarkets, fast-food restaurants, vending machines and more. As such visitors are strongly recommended to purchase one upon arriving in Hong Kong. They can be refunded for a small fee (HK$11) upon your departure provided you purchased an On-Loan Octopus card and not a Sold Tourist Octopus card.
The convention will be held in Asia-World Expo, a large multi-purpose exhibition centre situated next to the main terminals of the Hong Kong International Airport. If arriving from other parts of the city, visitors can take the Airport Express train and alight at the AsiaWorld-Expo station or take busses E11, E11A, E21, E22, E22A, E22P, E22X, E32, E41, S1 or S64X. If arriving via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, visitors can take the bus B4 towards Airport (Passenger Terminal Building) upon exiting the port. Visitors arriving directly from the Airport can take bus B4 towards HZMB Hong Kong Port or walk via footbridge from Terminal 2. More details can be found on the AsiaWorld-Expo website or by contacting them directly at +852 3606 8888.
